1996年度NHK的大河剧《秀吉》是继1965年《太阁记》后又一部部以秀吉为主角的作品，亦是大河剧中最叫好又最卖座的一部。本剧以堺屋太一的‘秀吉’、‘丰臣秀长’与‘人与鬼信长与光秀’三部作品为蓝本，前三十话着重刻画秀吉从贫民，凭借过人的智慧和永不放弃的斗志，得到时称“尾张大傻瓜”的织田信长赏识，并在信长的天下布武之道上出人头地的故事。第三十话被誉为最为经典一集，渡哲也饰演的信长在本能寺的火光中自刎而死，武者情怀笔者亦颇感动。后十九话描绘了秀吉击败光秀，胜家，降服德川，终而成为日本第一人的故事，然而本剧对秀吉的美化极为明显,秀次一家惨杀及晚年出兵朝鲜失利的阴暗面皆未描写,出兵朝鲜则全推给石田三成的阴谋和馋言,石田三成变成一切恶事的元凶｛NHK表示系顾虑到中国大陆和韩国民众的感受而作此修改。剧中人物刻画极为成功，主要演员如渡哲也，竹中直人表演有可圈点处...。In 1976, Karen and Barry Mason had fallen on hard times and were looking for a way to support their young family when they answered an ad in the Los Angeles Times.
